Huat! Huat! Celebration with The Bar'n Malaysia

January 21, 2020 0
This 2020 Chinese New Year, if you haven't decided where to feast for this auspicious occasion, then The Bar'n will be the best choice to pick. For its spacious and comfortable environment that each venue carries their own special animal identity. It is a place that has the best of both world -food and drinks!

They also have Yee Sang that you can order to celebrate Chinese New Year with your loved ones!

And what's better to pair it with their amazing meals and wines or alcohol to unwind and dine through the night!

Ps. You can opt for Vegetarian Yee Sang.

We also had the Meat Lover's Platter (RM92) that combines a variety of meat like the deep fried luncheon meat fries, tender juicy chicken wings, marinated and full of flavour pork satay, smoked chicken sausage, dynamite chilli chicken sausage, crispy pork belly and the juicy grilled Lágrima inter coaster pork meat (the meat between the ribs).

Perfect to match with white wine or beer!

Then we also had the Pescatore Pizza (RM35) that is made with homemade tomato marinara with mozzarella cheese, super fresh sautéed prawns, mussels and squids!

Very appetising for a pizza and not too overwhelming. Pairs beautifully with white wine too!

I preferred red wine for its antioxidant and we ordered a bottle of their house wine just to unwind and dine the night away.

The Bar'n actually hosts a different theme at each venue and for IOI City Mall, Putrajaya it was Daisy and Lucky the cow.

I love how the area was decorated! It was cosy and at the same time fun!

And we met Ricky who only had one goal in his mind. And that is to make sure everyone leaves happily. His passion in the restaurant is just inspiring because of his love for the culinary industry where he was a chef for over 30 years.

During our dinner there, he was checking in with people on their experience and just genuinely getting to know us. He was really friendly and approachable. You will surely feel welcome here at The Bar'n, IOI City Mall, Putrajaya.

They also have a Cigar room that is properly filtered and closed up that you can have private events or meetings with your business partners.

The Champignons Cake Shop & Taste by Champignons Malaysia

May 05, 2019 0
Today I had the luxury to indulge in the latest cafe and cake shop at Eko Cheras Mall, Malaysia that I am very excited to share my personal thoughts about this place with you!

Taste by Champignons, is a new concept that emphasizes a more lifestyle and cosy cafe environment by Chef Gary Chang, the Winner of the Malaysian International Gastronomy Festival in 2018. It is a definitely a much different setting when compared with Champignons at Oasis that is more of a semi-fine dining and affordable gourmet French fusion. Taste by Champignons, is a lifestyle with a cosy warm environment where most Malaysians would definitely enjoy a cup of coffee with a beautiful slice of cake and a great place to hangout with family and friends and just chill over good food and beverages, even wine!

Their menu is pretty simple, yet, offers a good variety of options for foodie lovers like me. It's interior setting is really cosy and warm, makes you feel right at home. I can probably sit here for hours with my family and friends and just chillax.

On the menu, they have chef recommendations as well, and I definitely had to go for those! The pricing are really reasonable and affordable too, just like most cafe menus out there but you get quality ingredients, meal recipes created by a 5-star Quality Gourmet Chef! Your meals will definitely be worth value for money!

Their Forest Mushroom Soup with Garlic Croutons (RM12) soup is really appetizing. I love how the aroma of the wild mushroom really matches well with the garlic crouton. It was quite generous for its portion too, I couldn't finish it all on my own. My kids will surely love it to bits!

Spanish Pork Shoulder Loin (RM28) was definitely cooked to perfection for me. Because I am currently expecting, hence the pork was made well done just for me. However, the meat stayed tender and juicy even when it is fully cooked and it was really delicious at every bite! Sinking my teeth into this meat was heavenly and really fresh too!

The Truffle Demi Glaze Sauce also brought out a very sweet yet unique flavour to compliment the pork shoulder loin. My favourite is the mashed potatoes too! Mashed perfectly and fragrantly aromatizing at the same time creamy but not too overwhelming! I could definitely see myself coming back to order seconds of the mashed potato to pack-to-go/take-away.

Norwegian Salmon Fillet (RM30), hard to resist a good cut of salmon fillet that is fresh and delicious at the same time. It was drizzled with Lemon Butter sauce that truly brought the flavours up a notch! You can see from the photo that the salmon skin is perfectly grilled and crusted nicely.

I really enjoyed my meals but the best part is yet to come!

The Champignons Cake Shop is just next to Taste by Champignons, you can order lovely cakes that is made by the one and only Pastry Chef Kingsley Kwoh, whose passion stemmed from his mother who was an avid home baker and from a tender young age, Pastry Chef Kingsley made it his career specializing in Modern French Patisserie. With 10 over years of experience, his last tenure of 4 years was with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Macau and was under the tutelage of French Pastry Chef Sebastien Bernis before he left to join Chef Gary at Champignons.

I love how each cake is detailed and artistically created. It is truly too beautiful to eat! Although it may seem a little overwhelming in its colours and one may even wonder if it will be too sweet or too much cream or too filling to savour after a good meal at Taste. But rest assured, each cake brings out its own unique flavours that will make you wanting for more! It is light and refreshing to have on an empty or full stomach!

I personally had the chance to experience these fine flavours at a go with my husband! Such a bliss hehe!

Cherry (RM16 each)
Filled with Dark Chocolate Mousse, Chantilly Cream, Cherry Compote, Chocolate Sponge with a Crunchy Base and Biscuit. This tastes like a mini black forest cherry cake, the mousse wasn't too overwhelming, surprisingly, although it may sound and seem creamy but every bite makes you wanting for more!

Rosy (RM16 each)
Made out of Black Tea whipped Ganache, Raspberry confit and Raspberry, Genoise Sponge and Biscuit. This has a very unique taste of Raspberry to it. And raspberries are known to be kinda sour, but this one had its own uniqueness that although it does taste slightly sourish, it was also a little sweet and tingling on my tastebuds too. I like it!

Chocolate Hazelnut (RM16 each | Cake RM98)
With Dark Chocolate Mousse, Moist Chocolate Sponge Cake and Chocolate Glaze; This cake is to die for! I would get triple servings of this in a blink of an eye! It isn't too sweet, but the chocolatey mousse compliments perfectly to the fluffy and moist chocolatey sponge cake that is like a bite out of the clouds in heaven; The chocolate glaze was smooth and rich, that is for sure but I love the based! It has this crunchy base almost like a chocolate cereal bar hidden below that gives off a sweet yet salty kind of chocolatey surprise that just makes this whole cake worth every bite!

Elderflower (RM18 each | Cake RM108)
The beauty of this cake, is that it gives off a very good moral to learn and that is "One shall not judge by the book of its covers!"; We thought this was a probably a peachy blend with tea kind of fruit cake but we were so wrong! Made from Elderflower Mousse, Guava Compote, Strawberry & Pink Guava jelly with Vanilla Genoise and biscuit as its base. It's a fruity guava cake for sure! When we cut it up, it still looked like peach to me until we took a bite out of it and it was the best cake we have ever tasted in our entire lives! (The best for me for sure!) The Guava compote gave the cake a unique texture and a refreshing flavour of freshness and lightly sweetened aroma that actually complimented the Elderflower Mousse. Not one ingredient was too overwhelming for the other, it was like, it is meant to be made together. Definitely a MUST-HAVE!

Mango and Coconut Choux Puff (RM14 each)
This one really gave off a custard cream puff kind of look at first glance. But again, never ever judge the cakes here by its look! This is made with Mango Whipping cream, Mango jelly, Coconut Dacquoise, Coconut Cream and Almond Crumble. With the amount of cream, it may seem like its too much to handle after having a full meal here, but NO! It was light and fluffy enough, yet the mango and coconut was really well made together that it was really another fruity cake on its own. I love how the mango flavours were brought out in the cake too! Not to mention, the mango jelly that tastes almost surreal like eating real fresh mango meat cubes instead!

Strawberry Charlotte (RM16 each | Cake RM98)
Made out of Strawberry sponge, strawberry jelly, Chantilly cream and Fresh Strawberries; This is also another favourite of mine and I am sure my boys will love this as well! Any strawberry lover will go for this anytime! This Strawberry Charlotte looks and tastes as it is, slightly sweet, fragrant, light and fluffy.

Just writing about this post makes me crave for pastry now. Especially that lovely golden baked croissant! If you'd love to sink your teeth into heaven then come by for a visit, because you surely won't regret it! Your family and friends will thank you for this!

The BAR°N Opens In Sunway Pyramid

April 09, 2019 0
I've always ventured into this part of Sunway Pyramid, ever since one of my family favourite restaurant moved out, I kept wondering what's next? Today was the Grand Launch Opening of The BAR°N in Sunway Pyramid right outside at the Ground floor, next to the Main Entrance of Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall. With a special guest appearance by Barny The Camel.

The BAR°N is an established famous large destination for food lovers that has good taste in wine; With their preceding outlets located in Penang, Mont Kiara, Ara Damansara and Kuala Lumpur; Finally, having The BAR°N at Sunway Pyramid lends even more credibility to its vicinity's manner of being one of the ultimate destinations for food lovers in Klang Valley!

I love the ambience and the surroundings which are beautifully decorated in a modern and chic design that offers an alluring appeal for diners and social bugs who simply enjoys stunning flavors, unique dishes and tantalising beverages at reasonable prices with their friends, family and loved ones!

The venue I would say is truly more than just another dining venue. It's an entire WOW experience and developing culture that creates a unique offering that you can't even imagine. From cocktails, to mocktails, to their food line-ups and the racks of wine bottles up on display for your choosing. There's surely something on-the-house to suit everyone's unique taste-buds.

May it be for business or for leisure, this place is definitely one to look forward to with the people you cherish and respect. Because the food here is pretty tasty, appetizing and fresh. They variety of beverages alcohol and non-alcohol is also at an advantage especially if you can't take alcohol but wouldn't want to miss out on the fun times with your friends and family.

They also have created a special cocktail called "The Hump" in celebration of Barny The Camel and will also be served in Sunway Pyramid outlet for the next month with proceedings going to A'Famosa Animal Safari Park in Malacca.

Wine & Dine with Beringer Winederlust with Levy Li

November 14, 2018 0
Tonight was a luxurious event where I was able to experience dining with the very beautiful, inspiring and talented Levy Li. Whom, she shared her travels tips with us tonight as we dine in winederlust with Beringer Vineyard.

When I first arrived at 6th Senses Gastrobar, it was a breathtaking sight as I have never ventured to this venue before and was amazed at it's interior decor that truly brings about the exquisite and exclusivity of dining with the finest quality of food and wine.

Whilst awaiting for the other guests to arrive, I couldn't help but snap a few selfie moments in this beautiful venue. We were served with a cooling cucumber lemonade and lime drink that was really refreshing and thirst-quenching.

Shortly after waiting for awhile (because I went there too early-was too excited lah), the event started with the very beautiful and talented host Levy Li who is also a mother herself and an entrepreneur; who sat right infront of me at my table! It was truly an honour to dine and wine together with this inspiring lady.

She started off with introducing herself and sharing some travel tips that we can learn and even plan for in the near future for our ownself and for our family. Bangkok was the main attraction that she highlighted today and it was just in time because I miss Bangkok so much! I would love to go there again but this time with my family!

Levy's travelling experience is one that's envious as she's explored everything from the monuments of Florence, Italy; meeting K-pop stars in Seoul, Korea; yet there is nothing that she loves more than travelling to the beautiful city of Bangkok, Thailand.

After her first session of sharing, we were presented with the first dish of the day that is the appetizer that is to be paired with the Beringer wine.

Lemon Coriander Vinaigrette Prawn Salad
This is made with greens salad, cherry tomatoes drizzle, lemon coriander vinaigrette, grilled prawns with Beringer Founders' Estate Sauvignon Blanc

It was really light and easy to munch on to prepare my tummy for the main meal, when pair with the white wine, it brings out a unique flavour and makes this dish more appealing. The wine itself has a refreshing grapefruit flavor enhanced with an intense citrus, ripe stone fruit and white fig. The win finishes with a clean grassy note and crisp acidity making it a perfect match for citrus salad, grilled fish or even goat cheese. With one sip, it really has that citrus type of zesty taste to its texture and it's fragrance.

Cream of Chicken Soup
Homemade chicken broth with light cream and served with chicken, potatoes, carrots, toast with Beringer Napa Valley Chardonnay. The soup is really flavorful and fragrant.

When paired with the white wine of the Beringer Napa Valley Chardonnay, it brings a stronger citrus and fruity aroma, while it leads to a more medium, rounded mouthfeel highlighted with flavors of lemon creme, toasted almonds and balanced acidity. In layman terms, it is is medium to strong and the taste linger in your mouth. It's slightly richer than the first wine.

Slow Braised Pork Belly
Slow braised pork belly with herbs, pumpkin puree, mushroom ragout, roasted cauliflower head, apple chips, pistachio nuts with Beringer Founders' Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. I just had to pick this main dish for myself because I've always wanted to know how it's like to pair pork belly with wine! And it was the best choice I would say. Because of the meaty texture and it is slow braised with sweet sauce marination, it matches very well with the Beringer Founders' Estate Cabernet Sauvignon red wine.

The wine brings about a flavour of rich red fruit characteristics, enriched with toasted oak and spice from aging on French oak. It has that really fragrant scent that doesn't sting your nose but it smooth at the same time and very appealing. At a sip it is sweet and then it changes texture to a fruity rich flavour that lingers in your mouth and on your tongue. I love this the most and pairing it with meat was really a unique experience altogether.

Chocolate Brownies
We were then served with a nice warm chocolate brownie with ice cream, salted caramel and crumbles. I paired this with each of the wine that was served earlier and it matched really well with either of it.

My favourite?
Actually all 3 has its own unique characteristics and pairing to match the flavours with. However, I love the Beringer Founders' Estate Sauvignon Blanc for it's mild citrus flavour where I can see myself enjoying it on its own at the comfort of my own home at my own "ME" time.

The wine tasting session today gave about a good experience for me being exposed to this exotic and exquisite luxurious world of wine pairing with good food and strangers who becomes your friend at the end of the day no matter where they came from.

We had a good evening asking questions and breaking the ice with each other on the topic of travelling; And lets not forget, Levy Li's valuable tips on planning a trip to Bangkok!
