Our Experience at the My Food 2025 Pre-launch Event!

March 11, 2025 0

On 22 April 2025, we had the chance to attend the pre-launch of My Food 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. This event, organized by Montgomery Asia, is more than just a trade show—it marks the beginning of a movement to promote local food suppliers and strengthen Malaysia’s food security.

The event was officiated by YBhg. Datuk Seri Isham bin Ishak, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS), and it was inspiring to see the industry’s leaders come together to discuss how Malaysia’s food supply chains can evolve to become more sustainable and self-sufficient.

What really caught our attention was the focus on sustainability and local sourcing. The demand for fresh, nutritious, and locally sourced ingredients is growing, and My Food 2025 is here to support that shift. The event provided an excellent platform for suppliers and industry players to connect and collaborate on how to build a stronger food ecosystem in Malaysia.

We also loved how sustainability was a major theme throughout the event, from reducing carbon footprints to educating buyers about the benefits of sourcing locally. It's clear that this initiative is set to drive meaningful change in Malaysia’s food industry, creating opportunities for local businesses and strengthening Malaysia’s position in global food security efforts.

The full My Food Show will take place from 24 to 26 April 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, and we can’t wait to see even more of these important conversations unfold. It’s not just a trade show—it’s a movement for a better, more sustainable food future in Malaysia.

Goodday with Wonda, Keluang Man and Astro Shaw at Kidzania

April 01, 2024 0

Another day to record for my memories. A day my kids enjoyed their time at Kidzania. Ever since the pandemic it has been awhile since they’ve been to Kidzania and so much has changed.

One of the activities they attempted near the entrance was the Goodday Charge where they had to workout to get healthy. This concept itself played a huge role for my kids as my kids are also on their losing weight journey as I don’t want them to be obese as they get older. Hence this activity trained them to work their hardest to ride the bicycle that helps charge up the blender to blend their healthy smoothie and be rewarded with the Goodday smoothie after the workout! It basiclaly replicates the act of an adult who goes to the gym to sweat it out and reward themselves with a healthy treat afterwards to refuel their energy.

Then they experienced the wall climbing activity where it was in cooperation with Wonda Coffee, Astro Shaw and the local Malaysian hero cartoon character Keluang Man! From this activity my kids get to experience the adventure of breaking through their fear of heights. Although they didn’t reach for the top but they did their best and didn’t give up. This itself taught them many life values in return. From not giving up too soon, doing their very best, facing their fears and finding their way to make it was in itself a victory!

As a parent I was so proud of them, as many will probably just give up without trying but they know that if you want something, you have to do your best and keep going even when it is uncomfortable. My eldest is afraid of heights but he made it halfway to the top, my second boy was also afraid but he did his best to find a way despite the obstacles infront of him, he didn’t give ip and kept trying even though he didn't make it halfway but I was able to witness him trying his best.

There were many other new activities on board like the FoodPanda grocery shopping and delivery, the Royal Canin Veterinary, the Famous Amos outlet and they brought cookies back, also the TV news reporter that I was equally proud of them because they were able to read the teleprompter on live TV. Although it was funny but they never complained or gave up.

At the end, they wanted to spend on toys but Kidzania is hood because it teaches them the value of it. Despite doing several jobs and making Kidzos they were still unable to get the toys they want. It indirectly teaches them the value of hard earned income from their effort and it is not an overnight success.

They had lots of fun and learned the value of hardwork effort and making money. But they had fun at the same time, I get to teach them the value of life to prepare them for the real world.

Ramadan Staycation Buffet 2023 di Mercure Nostalgia Selera Kampung

March 23, 2023 0

It's the time of the year again for the Holy month of Ramadan. A time where Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection and community. And this time we were in the embrace of Mercure Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie hotel at Shah Alam.

We got to experience the "Nostalgia Selera Kampung" widespread of delicacies and variety of cuisines here that is definitely to our liking. And the price package is pretty affordable to be honest. And I love how that you can also opt for the Nostalgia Staycation Package that includes the Ramadan buffet as part of the package. This is perfect for families travelling from afar.

The entire setup was really nostalgic per say. The environment, the decoration to the feel of the lighting and music were just all in place. But I think let's move straight into the food because that's the main highlight!

My kids really enjoyed their meals here, so I will say it is kids-friendly. Also did I mention they were delighted that they could enjoy their staycation here that was bundled with the Ramadhan buffet too for only RM325 per room. We topped up a little because we wanted a bigger room so we stayed in the Executive suite.

Also don't forget to enquire about getting your free Accor membership here because you get to enjoy additional perks too!

There's just too many lovely memories to be shared in one post but I truly enjoyed my stay here, the General Manager Ramesh was truly friendly and even their front desk staff Navien was also friendly and helpful.

Did I mention there's a rooftop bar here at Urban@13? You must come here atleast once because you will surely enjoy this peaceful and cosy environment, away from the traffic and the busy cities. Very zen and a great place to just discuss things over in a very civilized manner as you enjoy the surroundings and the ambience that Mercure Kuala Lumpur Glenmarie can offer.

Elite YouMiQi Unforgettable Dining Moments

September 28, 2022 0

Here's a story of Elite YouMiQi, they are a Shunde Authentic Cuisine that brings "Cantonese" delicacies all the way from Shunde in China. And here you will get the enjoy the freshness and goodness of this cuisine. The most important is the way it is being presented and the variety of opens on menu they have to offer is truly magnificient!

If you ever embraced yourself with the premium Chinese outlets around the hearts of Kuala Lumpur and found yourself in a limbo wondering where to visit for a nice authentic cuisine that suits the entire family (especially if you're Asian). Then I will suggest you to check out Elite YouMiQi at Jalan Imbi. It is a venue that one will not miss especially turning in from the main roads of Jalan Imbi. Even if you are a tourist on the way to the chocolate factory or durian outlet nearby, you will spot Elite YouMiQi just around the corner of the junction on your way through the one way road here.

Parking is limited inside but outside there are space, at the other end corner is actually shoplots with parking lots as well that you can park and just cross the road. They have jockey parking here that charges a "pay whatever you like" they take care of your car for you ensuring that is it safe and parked safely too. The entrance of this building is truly a sight to behold.

We were greeted with warmth and friendliness by the staff. There was also a welcome board to welcome us to the food experience today. My husband and friends was surprised at the gestures and we were truly delighted to be there. Upon entering the venue, the reception area is really unique and elegant. Did I mention how spacious it is here? They have a variety of rooms that comes with different layouts and settings for different occasions. All rooms are named after a Main Capital in a certain country and each have their own min spending rate to adhere to.

Upon entering our room, the layout on the table was truly neat and just very specialized. We had our Fresh and Chilled Coconut water with our names and Elite YouMiQi engraved on the coconut shell waiting for us at our table. You can actually request for such services when you make your reservations with Elite YouMiQi (must pre-book in advance).

You can also book at the main dining area for the casual dining over lunch or dinner with your family or with friends etc. The seafood here is exceptionally fresh and you see them live overlooking the main dinging hall. This place is perfect for any occasion, events and functions. Especially seasonal like Chinese New Year etc is the best place to be! Better start your reservations now, I heard it's already fully booked soon! The karaoke system was also truly amazing, the sound was really good.

Let's jump right into the splendid meals of Shunde Cuisine by Elite YouMiQi!

For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

Baked Ribs with Garlic & Cheese (8/10)
The ribs meat is a little tough as most ribs are, this isn't the soft tender ones ya. But the combination of Garlic & Cheese made this pretty fusion.

BBQ Stingray Fins (10/10)
If you love dried sotong then you must try this! It's quite crispy at the start, not for the elderly or little kids who can't bite properly.

Pickled Cucumber (110/10)
This really opens your tastebuds and your appetite for sure!

Stir Fried Celtuce with Garlic (11/10)
I love iiittt!!!

For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

Duo Japan Oyster : Steam with Chilli & Vermicelli | Cheese Baked (10/10)
No need go Japan for fresh oysters, can come here to preorder this. Served freshed and best eaten fresh! Love this so much and I don't even like oysters because I was afraid it will be slimy or have fishy stench but this is a whole other level of gastronomic experience you MUST TRY!
For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

Shunde Handmade Scallion Pancake (10/10)
I am guilty of this, I looked down on this dish when it arrived. I thought it was "just some" bread. HELLOOOOO nooooo! Every bite is appetizing to its name! Every bite makes you wanna grab another piece! Kids and adults, basically everyone who orders this dish will love it hands down!

For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

Shunde Signature Seafood Pot (11/10)
This exceeded expectations, it was fresh and the seafood was served accordingly, it was huge that can serve a whole 'kampung' and the soup is also carefully brewed and it compliments the entire ingredients in the pot so well that it brings out the unique authentic flavours of each food item that you can find in this pot! This is so perfect for family gatherings and special round table celebration occasions. Looks good on your image too (tee-hee).

For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

Shunde Signature Seafood Pot (11/10)
You can also see my son in the below photo looking in 'awe' when they pour the piping hot soup over the seafood. Just look at the size of that huge fresh 'Tiger Prawn' that can cover my face already.

Steam White Fragrant Rice (10/10)
Yes, yes I know you will ask, why white rice also wanna review meh... Of course la! It's food too and it's worth mentioning because incase for big eaters or especially Asian eaters, they love their white rice okayyy. The white rice here is really fragrant and the heat if just nice when served, like fresh cooked for you. Please eat when served hot, don't wait until cold cold then eat, don't after you say I cheat you, haiyaaa... Eat it when the food is hot/warm. (Put the phones down!)

For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

Signature Sweet Sour Pork with Fresh Fruits on ICE (11/10)
This is not your ordinary sweet sour pork. It is an upgraded version and it will exceed your expectations and will not disappoint! The meat is juicy, fresh, soft yet crunchy at the same time! The sauce blend is just perfect combination and the ice is just there as a decor, and in Malaysia where our weather is sunny and rain all year. Please faster scoop the meat up when it is served, don't leave it too long with the ice around because ice will melt. But ice is needed to make your sweet and sour pork extra crispier and crunchier! This takes high-level technique to cook this beauty up!

Shunde Pan Baked Style Free Range Chicken (9/10)
I got cheated! I thought this was pork! But it was free range chicken, the meat was tender yet not too tough and not too tender also. It was just right and it was a combination of bursting flavours in your tastebuds that you just keep wondering what dish is this! This is a mysterious dish that tastes exceptionally good and worth the try!

Shunde Handmade Prawn Paste Cake (10/10)
This is another dish that I swear it is a must have. I heard the chef specially beat the prawn up into a paste before adding a big fat juicy scallop in the center while making it. The entire texture goes doink doink chewy chewy in your mouth like how your skin should bounce. And the fragrance is amazing, you can taste and smell the fragrant prawn. You will know this is handmade and not from the factory guys!

Teow Chew Handmade Yam Paste (9.5/10)
Mango? Nangka? Pumpkin? Almost, it's YAM! I swear this is a first for me. Pumplin layered as the decor with the yam paste freshly beaten into this delicacy as a dessert to stop your sweet tooth craving because this is just natural on its own! I like how they try to ensure no added flavourings or seasonings and purely combining ingredients to bring out the best in each flavour together. My son finished it!

For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

Shunde Stewed Tendon in Herbs (7/10)
I very give face already! Firstly I don't like herbal dishes and secondly I usually won't even bother trying. But for this, I will give it a go because I trust their quality based on all the good experience I've been having so far. And I was right! This dish is flavorful power-packed with Oommphh! I took a sip and I knew, yup I still don't like herbs but this is really potent for herbs lover. My mom will love this alot! A very nourishing and nutritious bowl full of health. The tendon was abit chewy like sotong but it's not sotong. Worth the try for non-herbs lover like me and definitely an awesome choice for herbs lover.

Shunde Roasted Free Range Chicken (9.5/10)
Chicken looks sad but I like chicken in hopes chicken don't look sad... But this chicken freshly sliced infront of us especially when you watch the chicken sweating its juice extract at each slicing activity is truly appetizing! I swear I ate alot of this, I wouldn't mind packing it to go if there were extras, but there weren't.

Hong Kong Brother Fried Rice "HK Da Cha Fan" (9/10)
Please by all means, order this and ask the waiter how this is best served. We made a mistake and didn't ask and being typical asians that likes to share share, we didn't mix it all up before taking a portion each for ourselves! This dish is unique to its name, you have to mix everything up and then it is ready to be eaten/served. Because this dish is made with no added preservatives or no MSG! They use real ingredients for its flavoring and seasoning. So the meat, the bean, the veggie and everything done during marinating etc, was all prepped in advance and stacked over each other to be mixed and served. And I beliecve this will taste superb because when I took it, I had too much of the salty bean in it so it became salty for me. But if u mix it all up, that's where this dish will find its perfect balance! So this is MUST ORDER and MUST MIX only ENJOY. Remember ya.

For what you see in this image above and my verdict and experience below.

YouMiQI Dessert Platter (7/10)
Everything here can be eaten except the plant. The steamed fresh ginger with milk was milk to taste, the deep fried milk was something new and interesting, the kids love it. The handmade durian musang king ice cream takes the trophy! That one was hot off the shelves. The Mochi was also one of my favourite. So there is a savoury of 4 ways to indulge the texture here if you notice; chewy, crunchy, creamy smooth and watery. Enjoy! ((My rating is because I don't like milk personally, but I also did try this and find it not overwhelming but I still no like milk aaaaa) If you are a dairy person, this one MUST HAVE! If you are non-dairy person, you can try try and share share.

Grand Opening on 13th September 2022

The meals were delicious and that's where the highlight is today, these unforgettable dining moments, not just spent with loved ones of your family and friends but with anyone else, having meals here will make those moments truly unforgettable itself. Visit ELITE YouMiQi today! Surely no regrets!

IOI City Farm at IOI City Mall Putrajaya

August 25, 2022 0
I'm grateful that I was able to have Ashley Day spent at the IOI City Farm at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya. Maybe some of you are wondering what is Ashley Day? Well, it is a day that I will dedicate to each of my child and spend precious bonding moments just with them. It is something I read from an online article when I was pregnant with my firstborn. And I will make it a point to do this for each of my kids; especially now I have 3 kids. It's a day where she gets to decide what she wants to see and eat, a day where I get to know her and she gets to know me and what I do too. So it is an equal opportunity for both of us to understand and learn more about each other better.

That's why today was the day I brought my daughter to this latest edutainment center that is the very first urban indoor farm park in Malaysia. It is with a huge built-in indoor living planet that is located at AT6, Level 2 of IOI City Mall, IOI Resort City, Putrajaya. It is directly one floor right above District 21. Opening along with the Phase 2 of IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on 25 August 2022, IOI City Farm comprises three different zones - Greenland, Little Rimba and Freshwater World. Spanning across two levels measuring about 18,000 sq ft, plant and animal lovers will feel at home at this interactive and engaging indoor farm park. Visitors will get to interact and observe various species of plants, exotic fishes and adorable animals in the petting zone.

“IOI City Mall is excited to showcase the wonders of nature indoors for all to learn about the beauty that mother nature holds at Malaysia’s largest mall. This city farm in a mall concept is one-of-its-kind in Malaysia and it brings together three elements of nature – greenery, animals and marine life all under one roof. We hope that all our visitors will be able to enjoy what our indoor farm park has to offer,” said Chris Chong, Head of Retail of IOI Properties Group.

IOI City Farm comes complete with qualified zoologists, aquarists and botanists. Therefore visitors and even children visiting the IOI City Farm will get this rare opportunity to ask questions and learn from the experts. Unlike other aquariums or farms, there will also be a line-up of various activities such as fun fishing, DIY workshops and animal interaction, among others. Even young children like my daughter who just turned 3 years old enjoyed her time here and learned a few new words through experience fun interaction with the animals here.

When entering the premises, we were greeted with lush greenery and picturesque green surroundings. This Greenland zone is home to an indoor collection of 111 living plant species spread across nine sections. It will feature a Vertical Garden, an Urban Farm, a Glocave, Mystical Cave, Season of Colours filled with giant lotus structures, Teeny-weeny Forest, Insectopia, and Roots N Seeds. One of the highlights of this zone is the 21.4m2 centrepiece known as the Green Glades. It is an open terrarium concept that represents an open forest. This terrarium will be filled with a variety of flora species.

We saw many plantation here that is pretty commonly found in most Asian home kitchen. They also have exotic plants and even flowers as well.

Children will get to explore and learn about vegetables, herbs and fruit plants in the Vertical Garden. Meanwhile, Insectopia will educate them about how and why insects and plants play an important role in the ecosystem. Like this butterfly collection here shows the different variety and how it plays a role in our environment.

Be prepared to be amazed by the magical plants that glow in the dark at Glocave which we didn't enter, kinda missed it because we were distracted by the breath-taking view of the waterfall in front of the Mystical Cave, where more species of plants are waiting to be discovered. Even plants that is grown with water is also showcased there. And these are real plants my friends.

Then we passed by The Barn that was a nice area for workshops and events or parties that is super kid-friendly as we were heading to the Little Rimba, or also known as the cute and cuddly corner will features 17 different species of animals from around the world such as the sugar glider, hedgehog, Bengal cat, racoon, chinchilla, marmoset, fennec fox and others. Children will also be able to get up close with child-friendly furry friends to pet, feed and interact with them. My daughter super love this area the most and wanted to head back in again just to come back to pet the rabbits, guinea pig, duckling and chicks. When she petted the rabbits head, she screamed out of excitement. The animals were just too cute to keep that excitement in. Then again, this is where education can take place for my child to learn how to control their excitement and not scare away the pets and also gave me a heart attack when she screamed. (I also terkejut lolx)

Entering through this area and onwards we were headed to a staircase that was headed downstairs to the marine life. Here at the 6,000 sq ft Freshwater World, there are over 50 freshwater aquatic species ranging from river giants such as the Amazonian arapaima and Amur sturgeon to tiny crustaceans such as vampire crab and bamboo shrimp. Visitors will also be able to interact with the team of aquarists who are ready and eager to educate all on the aquatic species there.

Aside from this, there are also several pools that visitors can be engaged in such as the interaction pool and touch pool where young visitors can dip their hands into the water to gently pet the underwater creatures. There is also a feeding pool where visitors can feed the fishes and a catch pool for visitors to try their hand at fishing.

My daughter pulled back her hands when a fish was about to feed from her feeding tool because we don't pour the food out into the water which is more better for the fish and the water too, it's a very cute bottle with fish food in it and the fish is suppose to suck the food out like a baby sucking on a milk bottle. It was so adorable! We tried our hands at fishing but to be honest, if it was crowded then come another time because the fishes were all hiding at the bottom of the pool because too many trying to catch them. I caught a few water instead of fishes and gave up trying. But it was a good experience, not easy to catch these guppy fish that swim by super fast.

Now for the most important part. IOI City Farm is open daily, including weekends, public holidays and school holidays from 10am to 10pm. There are party, corporate and school packages available for those interested as the space is equipped with a party room that can accommodate up to 20 pax. The park, on the other hand, can fit 250 pax at any one time.
