IOI City Farm at IOI City Mall Putrajaya

August 25, 2022 0
I'm grateful that I was able to have Ashley Day spent at the IOI City Farm at IOI City Mall in Putrajaya. Maybe some of you are wondering what is Ashley Day? Well, it is a day that I will dedicate to each of my child and spend precious bonding moments just with them. It is something I read from an online article when I was pregnant with my firstborn. And I will make it a point to do this for each of my kids; especially now I have 3 kids. It's a day where she gets to decide what she wants to see and eat, a day where I get to know her and she gets to know me and what I do too. So it is an equal opportunity for both of us to understand and learn more about each other better.

That's why today was the day I brought my daughter to this latest edutainment center that is the very first urban indoor farm park in Malaysia. It is with a huge built-in indoor living planet that is located at AT6, Level 2 of IOI City Mall, IOI Resort City, Putrajaya. It is directly one floor right above District 21. Opening along with the Phase 2 of IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on 25 August 2022, IOI City Farm comprises three different zones - Greenland, Little Rimba and Freshwater World. Spanning across two levels measuring about 18,000 sq ft, plant and animal lovers will feel at home at this interactive and engaging indoor farm park. Visitors will get to interact and observe various species of plants, exotic fishes and adorable animals in the petting zone.

“IOI City Mall is excited to showcase the wonders of nature indoors for all to learn about the beauty that mother nature holds at Malaysia’s largest mall. This city farm in a mall concept is one-of-its-kind in Malaysia and it brings together three elements of nature – greenery, animals and marine life all under one roof. We hope that all our visitors will be able to enjoy what our indoor farm park has to offer,” said Chris Chong, Head of Retail of IOI Properties Group.

IOI City Farm comes complete with qualified zoologists, aquarists and botanists. Therefore visitors and even children visiting the IOI City Farm will get this rare opportunity to ask questions and learn from the experts. Unlike other aquariums or farms, there will also be a line-up of various activities such as fun fishing, DIY workshops and animal interaction, among others. Even young children like my daughter who just turned 3 years old enjoyed her time here and learned a few new words through experience fun interaction with the animals here.

When entering the premises, we were greeted with lush greenery and picturesque green surroundings. This Greenland zone is home to an indoor collection of 111 living plant species spread across nine sections. It will feature a Vertical Garden, an Urban Farm, a Glocave, Mystical Cave, Season of Colours filled with giant lotus structures, Teeny-weeny Forest, Insectopia, and Roots N Seeds. One of the highlights of this zone is the 21.4m2 centrepiece known as the Green Glades. It is an open terrarium concept that represents an open forest. This terrarium will be filled with a variety of flora species.

We saw many plantation here that is pretty commonly found in most Asian home kitchen. They also have exotic plants and even flowers as well.

Children will get to explore and learn about vegetables, herbs and fruit plants in the Vertical Garden. Meanwhile, Insectopia will educate them about how and why insects and plants play an important role in the ecosystem. Like this butterfly collection here shows the different variety and how it plays a role in our environment.

Be prepared to be amazed by the magical plants that glow in the dark at Glocave which we didn't enter, kinda missed it because we were distracted by the breath-taking view of the waterfall in front of the Mystical Cave, where more species of plants are waiting to be discovered. Even plants that is grown with water is also showcased there. And these are real plants my friends.

Then we passed by The Barn that was a nice area for workshops and events or parties that is super kid-friendly as we were heading to the Little Rimba, or also known as the cute and cuddly corner will features 17 different species of animals from around the world such as the sugar glider, hedgehog, Bengal cat, racoon, chinchilla, marmoset, fennec fox and others. Children will also be able to get up close with child-friendly furry friends to pet, feed and interact with them. My daughter super love this area the most and wanted to head back in again just to come back to pet the rabbits, guinea pig, duckling and chicks. When she petted the rabbits head, she screamed out of excitement. The animals were just too cute to keep that excitement in. Then again, this is where education can take place for my child to learn how to control their excitement and not scare away the pets and also gave me a heart attack when she screamed. (I also terkejut lolx)

Entering through this area and onwards we were headed to a staircase that was headed downstairs to the marine life. Here at the 6,000 sq ft Freshwater World, there are over 50 freshwater aquatic species ranging from river giants such as the Amazonian arapaima and Amur sturgeon to tiny crustaceans such as vampire crab and bamboo shrimp. Visitors will also be able to interact with the team of aquarists who are ready and eager to educate all on the aquatic species there.

Aside from this, there are also several pools that visitors can be engaged in such as the interaction pool and touch pool where young visitors can dip their hands into the water to gently pet the underwater creatures. There is also a feeding pool where visitors can feed the fishes and a catch pool for visitors to try their hand at fishing.

My daughter pulled back her hands when a fish was about to feed from her feeding tool because we don't pour the food out into the water which is more better for the fish and the water too, it's a very cute bottle with fish food in it and the fish is suppose to suck the food out like a baby sucking on a milk bottle. It was so adorable! We tried our hands at fishing but to be honest, if it was crowded then come another time because the fishes were all hiding at the bottom of the pool because too many trying to catch them. I caught a few water instead of fishes and gave up trying. But it was a good experience, not easy to catch these guppy fish that swim by super fast.

Now for the most important part. IOI City Farm is open daily, including weekends, public holidays and school holidays from 10am to 10pm. There are party, corporate and school packages available for those interested as the space is equipped with a party room that can accommodate up to 20 pax. Raising DuitSmart Kids In A Digital Era Today

April 19, 2021 0

As a mother of 3, it is important to know of what's currently available for my kids to access to on the digital era that is deemed valuable for their future. And recently, I have been teaching my kids on saving right for their future. I actually prepared the good ol' traditional piggy bank in a shape of a huge blue hippo that they can open the cover easily to access to their money.

And that's the downside of it. I have to place it high up on top the cupboard so that they don't simply play with it or access it to buy unnecessary items when it's meant for them in the future when they really need it. So then I ask, I wonder, is there any app out there that can facilitate such saving features that is kid-friendly where I can educate my child interactively at the same time?

And I found it. Hong Leong Bank launches its HLB Pocket Connect app that allows children to do banking on the digital side, so it teaches them the basics of banking, to earn, save and spend via a device. And their account is linked to a parent to help them make smarter choices.

I love how the app interactive features is really seamless between Parent-Child as it gives us as much control over their finances until they are ready to take accountability of their own finance situation. It's definitely the first and only app now in Malaysia with Hong Leong bank that will be beneficial for many families with kids.

Education on finances should begin young, not when we are about to head out into the big big world to work. It should start from the day we start to count!

That way, we can empower our kids to make wiser choices and allow them the spending power with every ounce of accountability or responsibility being weight in. That way, kids know that, not everything is an entitlement.

Just because they want it, doesn't mean they can have it, they have to learn that money don't grow on trees, they have to do something in return for it and when they have it, only then it should be much appreciated and saved up for much more important things than to spend everything unnecessarily. The app has this feature where they have tasks to complete that parents can give them tasks in return for extra pocket money. That way it is trackable and manageable for both party. Kind of like gaming where you accomplish tasks to level up. I'm sure most kids these days on the device plays games, hence it is something they can relate to, just that this will be in real life. So we teach them that money comes with hard work and real effort.

Once they start earning and saving up in their balance. Then it will come to the next stage, and that is to track their spending. So parents can be an eagle-hawk-eye all they want in this approach, but the purpose of this feature actually teaches a child how to spend wisely, how to plan for their future expenses without breaking the bank or burning a hole in their wallet - like literally! And what to spend on wisely and not just some randomly toy they see and buys it without purpose only to have it being thrown away in just a couple of hours. This is something parents must be involve in educating a child of such. With the HLB Pocket Connect App, your child will be able to keep track of their pocket money and spending, while having the freedom to go cashless with their very own HLB Junior Debit Card. Your child is safer with a reloadable debit card than cash.

As a parent myself, with 3 growing kids and a super-fast speed evolving technology era. I am a happy parent when I knew of this app by Hong Leong Bank. I truly love the effort behind it and I believe it will be a useful tool for me to educate my child about managing their finances well, something I failed to learn last time due to the lack of such information. I only learned it the hard way when I started working for others, but I never learned the value of saving up until today 30yrs later. So in order for me to not allow history to repeat itself on my kids. They have to start right from me now.

The HLB Pocket Connect App is the only junior account that comes with a savings account, a reloadable debit card and a high interest Fixed Deposit account. The app is available to all HLB 3-in-1 Junior Account holders. In fact, Hong Leong Bank and Hong Leong Islamic Bank had also organised a webinar, ‘Raising DuitSmart Kids in a Digital Era’ on 3rd April 2021. For a recap of the webinar, watch the full video here.

Grolier Amazing English with Grolier Pen My Kids Edutainment

May 12, 2020 1
How has MCO been for you? It's been kinda havoc for me but it's good because it's the noise and fights and tantrums and cries my kids make everyday without fail. Such wonderful moments that I know I will miss it one day, so I learnt to enjoy it entirely.

However, I am one that refuses to allow my kids to play tablet or watch TV or see YouTube all day long. Playing toys kinda get them bored overtime. I was also asking my son's kindy teacher on what I can do to help my son from home to really continue his K2 lessons without having too long of a break in between. But they only sent some YouTube links to refer to and a short video from their class teacher. Until I couldn't take it and suggested to the principal to setup a Zoom call instead parent-guided and collect workbook to and fro the kindergarten since most of us will not send our kids to school anytime soon. Because it has been unproductive!

But thankfully during the MCO it wasn't all unproductive for me, in fact my son has been picking up on his English that he can now explain and give me pretty good excuses for me to think about.

I would say investing in the Grolier Amazing English new launch series and the Grolier Pen was the best thing ever because not only my 6 year old love it and follows it, but his younger brother, my 4 year old loves it too!

I love how it does not just speaks out that singular word, but it can even read a whole sentence in full. Even the Amazing Words book covers a huge range of vocabularies that covers alot of general words we use in our everyday life in the world today. It also plays out the sound of the objects or animals on the book. You can even customize the sound by recording your voice over the words instead of the default voice pre-installed.

With over 5,000 words and 1,400 images, it is just worth it and enough to keep my kids occupied for an hour or so.

KidZania Official Partnership With BFM 89.9

December 09, 2019 0
Bringing my kids to KidZania Kuala Lumpur is my most greatest joy. Because I get to watch my kids learn life and explore new adventures and watch them grow.

Although there are some establishments that I am unable to see my kids participate because they have yet to reach the appropriate age limit or height limit yet. And one of them is the radio announcer. Because my son just started learning how to read this year.

Today officiates the official partnership between KidZania Kuala Lumpur and BFM 89.9 radio station. And with this partnership, many may wonder, what benefit can they bring to our children?

I must say I am more than impressed because, being a radio announcer is not easy and it takes alot of skills to be a great one! Hence, watching the live demonstration today on this new establishment really opened my eyes to this job scope for my kids.

I like how the program is conducted to teach our children how to read from the script on the screen infront. It allows our children to build their courage to speak into the microphone and to read out the words on the screen and interact with another person.

It is done like an interview and interviewee, social interaction where several parties take turns to ask questions and answer them appropriately. It teaches children to take turns and also to step up and lead the conversation when it's their turn. It also helps to improve their reading skills and pronunciation skill at the same time.

It was a good eye-opener session as you can view in the video above. There's just so much kids can learn these days and this is just one of the most important social skills that will surely benefit children these days!

Come to KidZania to allow your child to Learn Life and Explore today!

FrogAsia Classroom by YTL Foundation Awards Night Ceremony

November 28, 2018 0
It was an evening of new exposure to new education that is already available in Malaysia the past 6 years since 2012. Tonight was a night of celebration and award ceremony where, Teachers and participating school across Malaysia and in the world, receives their well-deserve recognition from tonight's Gala dinner event.

You will be wondering what award ceremony is that about, especially with Teachers involved; Have you heard of FrogAsia? It's a system that enables our schools to implement into their classroom to inhibit interactive learning amongst Teachers and Students. Brought to you by YTL Foundation with FrogAsia, their concept is truly an eye-opening concept that can change the ways and methods of schools in Malaysia today.

Over 250 schools/classes were LevelUp! with FrogAsia system and layout over the past 6 years and they are aiming to have more schools and more classrooms maximizing the system.

The Frog Classroom Programme is an initiative by YTL Foundation in collaboration with FrogAsia, provider of the Frog VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) under the Ministry of Education’s 1BestariNet project.

What I really love about this system is that, it is like a classroom with NO books, NO worries of missing out on subjects (when teacher is away or when you are away from school etc), interactive learning through sights and sound, quick response from the Teachers and also feedback and discussions amongst students in forums can easily take place with FrogAsia technology.

Have you heard of the education in Finland? They also use such technology in their teaching methods. In fact, some schools across the globe like in UK already has such interactive technology in place.

In Malaysia, any school can apply for this sponsorship from YTL Foundation and FrogAsia after meeting the basic criteria to be on board of this exciting new technology that, in my honest opinion, should be rolled out across the nation!

However, the criteria to be on board is to ensure internet connectivity is available, to crowd-fund a minimum amount for the FrogAsia system to be implemented and once the school has collected enough funds for this initiative, they can apply and once it's approved, YTL Foundation will sponsor the revamping of 1 classroom for FrogAsia class to take place.

It's learning methods can consists of many things because it is a technology that does not limit your creativity. Hence, teachers use it to keep their students updated on upcoming lessons, lessons are taught using the application software pre-installed in the laptops and tablets in the classroom, back at home, parents can access the app the check their child's performances and results, students can even play quizzes that are created by the Teachers that can be shared across nationwide or globally.

And it can even be a fun learning method to answer quizzes as they learn the correct answers while score the highest to win awards and such.

Like today, there were awards for the Teachers, the schools and even a World Championship quiz competition where representative from a school in UK were present to receive their award. However, the most outstanding was the 1st Runner Up, an SMK in Malaysia won it and the World Champion was SRJK (C) in Malaysia.

With such technology and with these schools having classes like these for the students, it actually makes learning alot more fun! I wish they had it in my school back then, then I wouldn't skip class or schools that often.

Congratulations to all the Teachers and School Winners!
